"Adonay Yahweh has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary. He wakens me morning by morning, wakens my ear to listen like one being taught." Isaiah 50:4
Adonay Yahweh means Sovereign Lord. The title "Adonay" implies a relationship- God is Lord and we are His servants. This title is referenced over 300 times in Hebrew scripture. Honestly, I don't like to think of myself as anybody's servant. I immediately associate the term "servant" as someone who is one step away from being a slave. Because I am so very selfish, I don't want to BE anyone's servant. Servanthood is most certainly nothing to aspire to, in our culture.
Fortunately, belonging to Adonay is not like belonging to, Simon Legree, the infamous villan in Uncle Tom's cabin. Instead of taking advantage of us or abusing us for His gain, God dignifies us, gives us privilege and calls us to be His hands. He ALLOWS us to show others His heart and His voice in this world. We represent the Sovereign Lord! If people are ever going to know God's faithfulness and grace they will know it in part because we reflect it as His servants.
This piece of scripture comes back into play--The Sovereign Lord supplies me with words to say to sustain weary?! It's incredible that God, who is in complete control of creation, uses ME. I've prayed over this scripture for a few weeks now. It's my prayer that I can be used to His service to encourage, supply, equip and most of all love those who need it AND that I will be able to discern who those people are.
I'm also praying for our community as the Sovereign Lord wakens us morning by morning, that our ears would be listening and our hearts would be softened like one being taught. There are very few things I love more than learning about God's character and I pray that our hearts are softened as He is using us to serve others.
How is God using you to minister to your kids as they ask the tough questions? What is God instructing you to say to the weary? WHO are "the weary" in your sphere of influence?
Let's communally be praying for guidance and discernment as the Lord is using us to love others- even though we definitely do not deserve to be used by the Sovereign Lord. He holds the whole creation in His hands and yet still knows our innermost being- and knows us better than we know ourselves.
I'm so thankful and humbled that He chooses us even speak His name. Allow this song to sweep over you as you realize that the Lord uses you as part of His perfect plans.
