Introduction to Family Ministry...

Welcome to the Family Ministries blog of First Presbyterian, Dalton! I am going to try my hardest to build this page to be a place for resources, encouragement and tools for parents and grandparents in the home. Such a large part of children's spiritual formation starts and flourishes in the home and we want you to feel completely equipped with fun out-of-the-box tools and ideas to use in your very own house. After Rally Day on Sunday September 9, this will be a place you can go to for information about what your kids covered in Sunday School during the week and how you can keep on implementing the lessons of faith in your home-- it's going to rock! So, be on the lookout for those discussions, activities and overviews in September.

My job is to be your "go-to" person and help with questions about the faith of your family. The church's job is to work alongside of AND hand-in-hand with your family. Please let me know how I can best serve your family. I am so eager and excited to get to know and love each and every one of you. I am praying and discerning the will of God in this awesome new ministry, right beside each of you and it is SO exciting!

Throughout this new season of Family Ministry at First Presbyterian, I challenge you to read through John 15 a few times this week.  Let's all get on the same page and start brainstorming as a community what it looks like for all of us, the whole Church Universal to abide and remain in the Father's love. The personal relationship you have with Jesus Christ is the very first step; evaluate what it looks like for you to "abide". Think about these questions as you're interacting with NOT only your children but, the children you're responsible for because of your baptismal vows.

  • What will children see when I am abiding and resting in the Father's love?
  • What will children see if I am NOT abiding and resting in the Father's love?
  • How can I best show the Lord's love to the children of the Church Universal? What does that ask of me?
I would love to be a conversation partner as you're wresting and as you're picturing Family Ministries at First Presbyterian Dalton. Happy first week of school!!!

Elizabeth
