Cornerstone

" Built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit." Ephesians 2:20-22

Ok, so this rocks. Paul writes this passage to teach and remind us of a few things:

1- As a Church community, a group of people dedicated to following Jesus Christ, we should be founded upon nothing less than Him. All of our efforts, programs, relationships, teachings and meetings will fail if they do not have Jesus as the most essential foundation. We will not go anywhere without Him along side of us and guiding us. If our most basic foundational piece isn't Jesus, then we better just stop now.

2- Jesus Christ is also the cornerstone to all of our relationships. Once again, knowing and loving Jesus is most essential to our relationships we have in this church and even how we relate to others in the community and world. We can better understand, encourage and love one another when we are all grounded and confident in the love He has for each of us-- and for His people. He made all of us in His image- and if we are made in the image of Christ, we must love, respect and honor our brothers and sisters. If we are disrespecting, being hateful and hostile towards people in our lives, that is not recognizing that we were all made in His likeness.

I am so encouraged by this! In Him all of us have something in common! We are all united by the Holy Spirit and by Jesus Christ being our "chief cornerstone."Be encouraged and dwell in this-- the people in this church have this in common with you and with your children. The Lord is building us together and strengthening His church. I have so much hope and so much joy thinking about the things to come!

During the week, listen to this song we sang on Sunday during worship. Let it be a reminder that being secured in the Lord's love and faithfulness, He changes lives and calls us HIS own!
